Student life

Study with us and you’ll find a lively, close-knit community with plenty of opportunities to meet other students, build your networks and gain new skills and experiences.

Edinburgh University Students’ Association has more than 290 societies covering a diverse range of interests, so you’re sure to find something of interest. Societies provide a place to meet like-minded people, indulge in a hobby, or simply socialise. Or if you enjoy being active, or just want to try out a new sport, our Sports Union offers over 60 sports clubs in which to get involved.

We realise you need more than just a place to live. You need an environment in which you can thrive. That’s why we guarantee accommodation for as many new undergraduates as possible, as long as you meet certain conditions.

Supporting you is key and we'll help you:

  • become a confident, independent learner and play an active part in the University community
  • develop the graduate attributes required for success at the University and beyond.

Glasgow was named the UK’s top cultural and creative city (The Cultural and Creative Cities Monitor 2019 report), while millions descend on the Fringe Festival every summer.

Scottish students may not want to stray far from home – the government covers tuition fees for those studying their first undergraduate degree here.
